The aforementioned statement has been taken from the results of a Soccer Research Project that involved more than 50 researchers across seven countries. They studied sociological, psychological and physiological aspects of recreational soccer and found that playing soccer leads a person to broad-spectred fitness and health benefits.

Led by Jens Bangsbo and Peter Krustrup (Department of Exercise and Sports Sciences) from University of Copenhagen, this Research Project showed several remarkable results. We are listing the highlights of those results.

Improves Muscle Strength

According to the research project which studied over effects of playing soccer, playing soccer regularly improves muscle strength. The research also revealed that the effect of regular participation is soccer is slightly different on adult men comparing to women.


Better Bone Density from Soccer than Running

Most of the people know that no exercise increases bone density as much as running does but the fact is participating regularly in soccer provides better bone density than Running. A 14-weeks study, in which few women (of 20-47 years’ age) were trained twice a week to play soccer, found significant bone density increases in the left & right tibia.


Muscle Strength and Bone Density Last Longer than Expected

The Research Group also involved 65-75 years’ old men and examined their muscle functions and bone density. The report revealed that “70-year-old men, who have played soccer most of their lives on a recreational basis, have just as good a balance and rapid muscle strength as untrained 30-year-olds and much better balance and muscle strength than their peers”.

These benefits can be gained from regular participation in soccer and regularly doesn’t mean daily, twice in a week would be sufficient if you don’t have much time.
